Mission
Roadside Technologies’ mission is to enhance the safety of individuals in the transportation environment through the use of advanced real-time systems. The primary means to achieve this goal is the development of advanced warning systems that will proactively alert law enforcement, highway response personnel, construction workers, and school bus passengers of impending danger resulting from unsafe driver behavior.

Company
Roadside Technologies is a start-up company based out of the Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC). Roadside Technologies was established as a result of, patent pending, Roadside Safety Research conducted at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). The research was a collaborative effort conducted with GDOT Incident Management’s Highway Emergency Responders Operator Unit (HERO) beginning in 2009. The engineers for the roadside safety project are Eric Geter (Project Director), Steve Robertson, Wiley Holcombe and Ben Johnson. The project was sponsored by GTRI’s Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) internal research and development program. The purpose of this research was to assess drivers’ compliance of the State of Georgia Move-Over Laws.

Problem Addressed
For the past 10 years and across the country, there have been a minimum of 10 police officers' deaths, per year, resulting from roadside fatalities. Total number deaths of law enforcement resulting from roadside accidents between 1999 and 2009 are 164. The life lost of emergency personnel from roadside accidents cannot be equated. The loss of the emergency personnel's services provided to the community is estimated around $3.8 million per individual. The tally for collisions that are non-fatal, but injuries occur, are not required to be reported or/and are inconclusive. To aid in saving lives, policemen have developed training procedures for parking police vehicles in strategic positions to deflect colliding vehicles away from them. Emergency vehicles have mounted LEDs for better lighting, so emergency vehicles on the side of the road are more visible as motorists approach them. Roadside Technologies' advanced safety system will enhance current safety methods making roadside assists safer with the use of technology that has lead to development of proactive warning systems to alert police officers of possible impending rear collisions and enforcement of states' Move-Over Law.
